Neil Simon, Danny Simmons Among Art Award Recipients

Bloomberg presented the six art and culture awards

Hip-hop mogul Russell Simmons' brother has received an award for arts and culture from New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg. And "The Odd Couple" playwright Neil Simon has received a medal.

Danny Simmons is co-founder of the Rush Philanthropic Arts Foundation, which encourages exposure of underrepresented artists. He received one of the six arts and culture awards for this year presented Monday at the Apollo Theater.

The other five award recipients are the Alliance of Resident Theatres, Arthur Aviles, Sharon Dunn, Galt MacDermott and the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation.

Simon received the Handel Medallion, the city's highest award for arts achievement.
