St. Brigid's Cleanup Begins, Entire Back Wall Coming Down

Historic St. Brigid's Church on Avenue B received a last-minute anonymous donation to save it from becoming a holy pile of rubble, but that was months ago and the demolition permit is still on file. Preservationists have been on edge about the fate of the 160-year-old church, but there is finally some action at the property. A truck pulled up this morning, and the St. Brigid's spy writes, "They're removing rubble + asbestos from the backside of the church. Guy affiliated with cleanup crew said they've got to take down the entire back wall of the church due to structural damage." Hmm, let's hope they stop at the back wall.
