1. Katie Ledecky Blasts Own World Record as She Captures Gold, Michael Phelps Gets Silver in 3-Way Tie

Katie Ledecky blasted past her own world record in the 800-meter freestyle, leaving the rest of the field far back in wake as she's done so often in the Rio Olympics, winning her fourth gold medal of these Games.

Phelps was looking to win the 100m butterfly for the fourth Olympics in a row (becoming the third four-time Olympic champion in a single event for the U.S.), but ended up taking silver in a three-way tie to rivals Le Clos and Cseh, while Singapore's Joseph Schooling took gold. It's the third silver medal of his career, and the 27th overall.

2. Carli Lloyd, U.S. Women Fall to Sweden in Thrilling Quarterfinal Upset

The United States, ranked No. 1 in the world, was eliminated by Sweden after a penalty shoot-out in a thrilling quarterfinal upset that dashed the Americans' hopes for a fourth straight Olympic gold medal. The game was tied until the second half, when Sweden scored in the 61st minute to take the lead in a match-up of staunch defenses. Then, in the 78th minute, with her team's back up against the wall, the United States' Alex Morgan nailed a goal to even the score. After tying the game, the Americans missed several shots and kept getting blocked. There were even more close calls in the overtime period. Ultimately, Sweden beat the U.S. on penalty kicks 4-3.

[Rio2016 - Soccer]Model Olympian: Carli Lloyd

The U.S. women entered the Olympics as favorites to top the podium and their play in the group stage did little to change that. Despite a hiccup in its 2-2 draw with Colombia, the U.S. looked the part as the top ranked team until Thursday's nailbiter. New Jersey native Carli Lloyd scored a goal in each of the U.S. team's first two matches to open the Olympics. The Rio Games mark the Rutgers alumna's third Olympics. Lloyd is best known for the World Cup final last year in Canada when she scored three goals in the first 16 minutes of the final against Japan. The U.S. won 5-2 for its third overall World Cup title.

One of the most decorated shooters in Olympic history, Rhode has won more than 35 national and international competitions and is the three-time shooting female athlete of the year.

Despite earning another medal in Rio, Rhode isn’t ruling out making another run in four year in Tokyo.

"There really is no reason to stop,” said Rhode. “I’m very much looking forward to the future, the possibility of being able to take my son with me on some of my competitions and allowing him to see the world. There’s still lots to shoot for.”
