I'll Have Another Scratched from Belmont, Ending Triple Crown Bid

Press conference set for 1:00 p.m. at Belmont Park

I’ll Have Another is out of contention for the Triple Crown.

I'll Have Another was scratched from the Belmont Stakes with an injury, ending the colt's historic Triple Crown bid, NBC Sports Network reported. The 3-year-old colt had a swollen tendon, The Associated Press reported.

A press conference was set for Belmont Park at 1:00 p.m with I’ll Have Another’s trainer Doug O'Neill.

O'Neill's brother Dennis told the AP the horse galloped Friday morning and after a veterinary scan, the tendon seemed "kind of tender."

"The horse is sound and happy, but it's not worth it," he said.

I’ll Have Another had been the favorite going into the Belmont Stakes, as he tried to clinch the first Triple Crown victory in 34 years after wins at the Kentucky Derby and the Preakness Stakes.
