Iverson's Wife Wants a Divorce

Wife asks for equal assets and custody of the kids

Allen Iverson’s personal life took another hit this week as his wife filed for divorce.

The same day that the Sixers announced that A.I. wouldn’t be returning with the team so that he could deal with “personal issues” it seems that those issues were about more than just his sick daughter.

Iverson’s wife of eight-plus years, Tawanna, filed for divorce in Fulton County, Georgia Tuesday. The was story originally reported by the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

NBCPhiladelphia obtained a copy of the divorce filing. In it Tawanna claims her marriage is “irretrievably broken."

The Iversons have five kids together ranging from 17 months to 15 years. Tawanna is asking for temporary and permanent custody of the children.

She also is looking for an "equitable division of marital property." That means she could be awarded millions from A.I.'s endorsement and NBA deals.

She is also looking for a separate estate, permanent alimony and attorney fees, according to the filing.

Iverson’s second stint with the Sixers was short lived as “The Answer” spent the past couple months in an out of the 76ers lineup as he dealt with his 4-year-old daughter Messiah’s undisclosed illness.

"It has been very difficult for Allen and the team to maintain any consistency as he tries to balance his career with his personal life," 76ers President and General Manager Ed Stefanski said Tuesday.

It seems like there may have been more going on in the Sixers legend’s life.

Looks like not only has Iverson possibly played his final game with the Sixers and possibly the NBA but his marriage might also be falling apart.

The700Level really summed up how a lot of people could be feeling.

“At times, fans almost felt like Allen Iverson was his own worst enemy, but nobody wishes these kind of personal issues on anyone,” they wrote.
