Lazio, Paladino Get Money Boost in Gov Race

Andrew Cuomo, the Democratic candidate for Governor, reported he had 23.6 million in his campaign war chest. His Republican opponent, Rick Lazio, has raised a mere $688, 821.

Days before Tuesday's primary, Republican Carl Paladino has pumped $656,000 of his own money into his campaign and Rick Lazio attracted $79,500 from two New York City donors.

State records show Paladino, a millionaire developer, wrote a $532,500 check on Sept. 2 and a $117,500 check on Tuesday. He picked up another $7,000 in contributions from a construction company and two private donors since Aug. 31. His latest full financial disclosure report showed he was $500 in the red on Sept. 3.

Lazio, the party designee, on Wednesday attracted a $51,000 check from Gordon M. Singer, a longtime Republican donor; and $25,000 from hedge fund manager Julian Robertson Jr. Securities analyst Brian Gardner also contributed $3,500 this week.

Lazio had $500,000 on hand as of Sept. 3.
