Relatives of a man who jumped off the Verrazano-Narrows Bridge last month are calling for construction of a fence on the span to prevent suicides.

Andre Carrasco, of Brooklyn, died on Jan. 25 when he stopped his car on the bridge and climbed over a railing. It was the second suicide death on the bridge in 30 days.

Carrasco's niece, Jessica Suero, tells the Staten Island Advance that a fence would slow down or stop prospective jumpers. She is holding a petition drive to persuade the Metropolitan Transportation Authority to build one.

MTA spokeswoman Judie Glave tells the newspaper there are currently no plans to install a fence.

The bridge is supposed to be off-limits to pedestrians.
