Woman to Sue City Over Blizzard Response, Mom's Death

A woman who believes her mother would still be alive if it weren't for New York's poor response to the post-Christmas blizzard is planning to sue the city.

A lawyer for Laura Freeman filed a notice of claim against the city and several agencies Wednesday, which is the first step in filing a civil suit. Her lawyer, Sanford Rubenstein, says Freeman's mother Yvonne died from a heart attack on Dec. 27 while waiting hours for an ambulance.

Freeman is planning to file a $20 million wrongful death suit. The city law department said the case involved a "tragic situation'' and it was awaiting the legal papers.

The blizzard dumped 20 inches of snow in some parts of the city. Mayor Michael Bloomberg has said it was handled poorly.
