Two men were shot outside a nightclub in the Flatiron District shortly before sunrise Friday, authorities say.

Officials got the call about the shooting in front of a building on West 24th Street around 6:30 a.m.

Police say the two men -- ages 24 and 34 -- were both shot in the ankle.

According to police, a group of people was leaving the club when the gunfire erupted. The 34-year-old was hit first and the 24-year-old may have been a bystander who was shot as people tried to flee.

They were taken to the hospital and are expected to be OK.

Authorities shut down 24th Street between Fifth and Sixth avenues for a time to assist the investigation.
