Rutgers University appears to be close to naming a new head basketball coach.

Sources tell NBC 4 New York that Eddie Jordan will be introduced as the new head coach sometime this coming week.

Rutgers was meeting with Jordan Sunday to hammer out the deal.

Jordan is an assistant coach for the LA Lakers, and an ex-Scarlet Knights star who helped Rutgers to the Final Four in 1976.

Former head coach Mike Rice was fired earlier this month after video surfaced of him appearing to be mentally and physically abusive to his players.
