Rangel, Meeks Say They Won't Attend Netanyahu's Speech

A few of New York City's congressional members, including Rep. Charlie Rangel (D-NY), plan to bow out of Israel Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's speech to the House of Representatives, though most of the city's congressional members plan to attend.

Netanyahu's speech has drawn scrutiny.

House Speaker John Boehner (R-OH) invited Netanyahu — who's facing re-election in Israel — without notifying President Obama.

Obama and Netanyahu are not scheduled to meet.

Rangel said Monday at an unrelated event at Gracie Mansion that he would not attend the speech. The only other member of New York City's 11 House delegation who said he is not going is Gregory Meeks (D-NY).

Sens. Charles Schumer (D-NY) and Kirsten Gillibrand (D-NY) are attending.

Yvette Clarke said she is undecided.

Several members who are attending criticized the way Boehner invited Netanyahu but said they value relations with Israel.
