The suspect shot in the stomach by a police officer Tuesday afternoon has died.
Police say the shooting was the result of a drug arrest gone awry.
Undercover police were trying to arrest a 23-year-old suspect when another man tried to grab the detective from behind and place him in a chokehold.
The detective struggled with the two men before firing a round from his weapon, striking the 43-year-old man in the stomach, police said.
The younger man fled into a building on Post Avenue but was later apprehended, according to police.
The 43-year-old was taken to Harlem Hospital and died Wednesday.
The detective was treated for neck and shoulder injuries.
