Brush Fires Near NJ Turnpike Cause Traffic Delays

Gusty, dry conditions helped stoke the fires

Several large brush fires in New Jersey caused some traffic delays off the New Jersey Turnpike during rush hour Tuesday.

Gusty, dry conditions contributed to the fires in Kearny, just off Interchange 15W of the Turnpike.

The southbound Eastern Spur ramp at 15W and the northbound 15W off-ramp were closed as firefighters responded.

The fires were largely contained by 5:30 p.m. Firefighters were still on the scene knocking out some hot spots.
