NJ Magnet School Teacher Sent Teen Girl Sexually Explicit Emails: Prosecutors

A teacher at a New Jersey magnet school has been arrested on sex crimes charges after he allegedly sent a 16-year-old girl racy emails, prosecutors say.

Bergen County Academies teacher Donald Dewitt, 65, faces charges of attempted sexual assault, criminal sexual conduct and endangering the welfare of a child, according to Bergen County Prosecutor John Molinelli.

Dewitt was arrested Monday after the victim’s sister discovered sexually explicit email messages between the teen and the teacher, Molinelli said. The sister told the victim’s mother, who called police.
During an interview, the victim gave detectives specific details about what happened with Dewitt, and the emails were handed over.

Bail for Dewitt was set at $300,000. He was still in the Bergen County Jail as of Tuesday.

Attorney information for the man wasn’t immediately available.
