An NYPD officer has been arrested and accused of attempted rape after an encounter with a 16-year-old girl on Staten Island, police said.

The 29-year-old officer knew the girl, according to authorities.

He was arrested Wednesday on Staten Island and faces charges of attempted rape, sexual abuse, endangering the welfare of a child and unlawfully dealing with a child, which is a charge related to alcohol.

The officer, who has been with the department for seven years, was not on duty when he was arrested.
