A man broke into a bathroom on Staten Island earlier this week and then tried to rape a woman in a shower before choking her, police say.

The 22-year-old woman was in a home near Ebbitts Street and Hett Avenue in Oakwood on Tuesday morning when the man managed to break into the locked bathroom.

Once inside the bathroom, the man went into the shower and touched the woman’s privates, according to police. When she tried to fight him off, the suspect threw her to the floor and began choking her.

When the man let go of her, the woman was able to convince him to let her walk out of the bathroom. Once they were in a nearby hallway, she dashed out of the apartment and into a street, where she ran up to passersby for help. By that time, the man was gone.

The woman was treated for her physical injuries at a nearby hospital and released.

Police have identified 30-year-old Miguel Felipe as a suspect. Police said Felipe goes by the names “Tino” and “Constantino.”

The NYPD asks anyone with information to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-577-TIPS.
