Police Search for Vehicle After Man Killed in Astoria Hit-and-Run

A car struck and killed a man before taking off in Queens Wednesday night, police say.

The 45-year-old man was hit by the car as he crossed 21st Street at 30th Road in Astoria just before 11 p.m.

When police arrived, the man was lying in the street with severe injuries.

He was rushed to Elmhurst Hospital but did not survive.

Police are looking for a silver or gray four-door sedan that took off north on 21st Street.

People who live in the area say it's always busy with drivers and pedestrians. There's also a youth center nearby.

"People have been trying to get a traffic light over here but it hasn't happened," one resident said.

Anyone with information about the fatality should call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-577-TIPS.
