Body of Missing Swimmer Washes up on New Jersey Shore: Deputies

The body of a swimmer who had been missing since Wednesday evening was found Friday morning on the Jersey shore, sheriff's deputies say.

The body of 25-year-old Andros Vega-Pena washed ashore on a Sandy Hook beach and was found by a fisherman, according to the Monmouth County Sheriff's Office.

Vega-Pena had been missing since he was seen struggling in the waters off of Sandy Hook on Wednesday evening.

The discovery of the body comes after a two-day search effort where authorities used divers and aviation units.

Officials said there had been two groups of swimmers in the water without the supervision of lifeguards on Wednesday. Guards are on duty from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
