Man Drowns in Long Island Sound

Police say they've recovered the body of a 28-year-old man who drowned while swimming in the Long Island Sound on Sunday.

The man was last seen in the waters off of Harbor Island Beach near Mamaroneck.

He had reportedly been in a small swimming area protected by a boom when he went under. His family did not see him surface, and bystanders rushed to try to help as police were called in.

The search lasted through the night before the man's body was found just before dawn by an NYPD dive team.

Police have not officially identified the drowned man, but the victim's family was at the scene.
