The victim was able to call 911 with a second cell phone

A man fell into a storm drain on Long Island while trying to retrieve his cell phone Monday, but was rescued by emergency responders when he called police with a second cell phone he had on him, police said.

The 25-year-old Medford man accidentally dropped his phone down a storm drain on Route 112 near Granny Road at about 6:40 p.m., according to police.

When he tried to retrieve the phone, he slipped and fell into the drain's holding tank, where he became trapped.

He was able to call 911 with a second cell phone.

Emergency service officers responded and used a reciprocating saw and a ladder to get to the victim and free him. He was not hurt, police said.
