A 54-year-old man is charged with second-degree murder in connection with the stabbing death of a 32-year-old single Long Island mother whose body was found in a New York parking lot in the middle of the afternoon one day last month.
Jose Cartagena, of Glen Cove, was arrested earlier this month in California and extradited to New York, police said. Information on an attorney for him wasn't immediately available.
Police say Yanira Estella Canjura Martinez, was walking in Glen Cove to pick up her 5-year-old daughter when she was stabbed on the afternoon of March 23, Nassau County police say.
Authorities previously said it didn't appear she had been robbed and that they were looking into a possible domestic dispute angle.
