Long Island Music Teacher Pleads Guilty to Sex Abuse, Gets Probation

A Long Island music teacher has pleaded guilty to sex abuse and endangering children.

John E. Benstock appeared in court Monday. He will get probation and must surrender his teaching license. He also must register as level one sex offender for 20 years.

He pleaded guilty to four counts of sex abuse and to 10 counts of endangerment.

The Locust Valley teacher had been indicted in July 2011 on 31 counts related to 14 students.

The defense said the teacher had supporters in the community and among colleagues.
