Long Island Man Pleads Guilty to Post-Sandy Burglaries

Keith Shippey stole TVs and removed copper pipe, prosecutors say

A Long Island man faces seven years in prison after admitting he burglarized homes damaged by Sandy.

Keith Shippey of Freeport pleaded guilty Thursday to burglary and grand larceny charges.

Nassau County prosecutors say he broke into two Freeport homes damaged by the storm.

They say he stole TVs and removed copper pipe that had recently been installed. The break-ins happened in April 2013.

The October 2012 storm damaged hundreds of homes in New York and New Jersey.

Prosecutors say Shippey was caught after cigarette butts he left at both locations were linked to him by DNA testing.

He is expected to receive seven years in prison when he is sentenced on June 26.
