A Long Island man allegedly assaulted two police officers Sunday afternoon when they tried to detain him for driving without a license after pulling him over for another infraction, authorities said.

Officers noticed Jorge Guevara, 41, driving a BMW on Nassau Road with three children in the car, including a 2-year-old in the back who was not in a child seat, detectives say.

The officers pulled the Roosevelt man over and during a routine license check, they saw Guevara has no current New York license and a suspended license elsewhere. Guevara tried to walk away, police said, and a struggle ensued as officers tried to detain him.

Both police officers and Guevara ended up going to a local hospital for treatment. One of the officers suffered contusions, lacerations and a sprained finger in the altercation. The other fractured several bones in his hand.

Guevara had a black eye. He was later arrested and charged with assault, aggravated unlicensed, unlicensed operator and having a child younger than 4 in the back seat without a restraint, officials said.

Information on an attorney wasn't immediately available. He's expected to be arraigned later Monday.

The children were released to their mother.
