LIRR Trains Delayed, Canceled During Evening Rush

A track condition east of the East River tunnels caused a host of delays and cancellations on the Long Island Rail Road during Monday's evening rush.

As many as 17 eastbound trains were canceled, and westbound service was temporarily suspended between Jamaica and Penn Station and Woodside and Penn Station on the Port Washington branch.

The delays came as many Long Islanders are heading home to celebrate Passover.

The track was fixed by Monday night, and trains were running on or close to schedule. Tuesday's morning rush is expected to be normal.

New York City Transit was honoring LIRR fares on the E train in Jamaica and on the 7 train in Woodside.
