Kennedy Lawyer: No Plea Deal in Driving Case

Kennedy was arrested July 13 after police said her Lexus swerved into a tractor-trailer on Interstate 684 in North Castle

An attorney for Kerry Kennedy says there will be no plea bargain in the driving-while-drugged case against her.

Kennedy, daughter of Sen. Robert F. Kennedy and niece of President John F. Kennedy, is expected Tuesday in North Castle Town Court.

She was arrested July 13 after police said her Lexus swerved into a tractor-trailer on Interstate 684 in North Castle.

Tests found a small amount of a sleeping drug in Kennedy's blood.  She says she believes she accidentally took a sleeping pill. No trace of alcohol was found.

Kennedy has pleaded not guilty.

Defense attorney William Aronwald said Monday that unless the charge is withdrawn, the case will go to trial. But first, he said he expects to file various motions. He would not elaborate.
