Local taxis in Nassau County will continue to offer free rides home to holiday revelers up through New Year's Day, County Executive Ed Mangano said.

The Holiday Free Ride Taxi Initiative is part of an effort to deter drunk driving, and will be available throughout Nassau County and Eastern Queens. It also includes rides back to the driver's car the next day, said Mangano.

The following companies are participating in the initiative:

    •    Ollie’s Taxi & Airport Service
    •    All Island Transportation
    •    Taxi Latino
    •    Luxury Transportation
    •    Glen Belle Car Service
    •    Deluxe Transportation

The free rides may be obtained by calling 516-326-9090.

Mangano said there will be increased DWI patrols this weekend, part of a STOP DWI program funded by DWI fines collected in Nassau County.

"We will be targeting drunk drivers and looking to prevent the kind of senseless alcohol-related accidents that, unfortunately, often occur during a holiday,” said County Executive Mangano. "There will be additional police patrols all around Nassau County and chances are if you drive drunk at any point over New Year’s Eve, you will be arrested."
