4 Arrested in Central Park Mugging, Questioned in Other Park Robberies: NYPD

Police say they've arrested four suspects in a mugging in Central Park Thursday evening and are investigating whether they're also connected to two other similar robberies in the park earlier this week.

The four suspects allegedly approached a 19-year-old man in the park around 7:30 p.m. Thursday at East 73rd Street and East Drive, punched him in the face and took his iPhone.

The victim called 911, and officers caught the suspects by East 67th Street and Madison Avenue, police said.

The alleged robbers, ages 14, 15, 17 and 20, are being questioned in several other robberies in the park, though Police Commissioner Bill Bratton said Friday those robberies appear to be a separate pattern.

Police are continuing to investigate another armed robbery early Thursday in which a pair of armed robbers stole a cellphone, $2,000 in cash and the shoes off a 31-year-old man inside the park at West 70th Street and Central Park West. That is not believed to be connected to the four suspects.
