3 Firefighters Injured in Wayne, N.J. Fire

Three firefighters were injured in a heavy apartment fire in Wayne, N.J. Monday.

One was treated for smoke inhalation and another suffered minor injuries when he fell from the third- to second floor. A third suffered heat exhaustion.

Brian Amico, who was working nearby, said he rushed inside to help when he saw the smoke and flames.

"We ran into the building and went floor to floor and door to door knocking and taking out the elderly people," he said.

The fire displaced residents throughout the building, which had 30 units.

Resident Cheryl Foster said her four-year-old cat, Missy, is missing.

"My place is intact but there's a lot of water coming down," Foster said. "I don't know whether she drowned or smoke inhalation. Who knows?"

The cause of the fire, which started on the third floor, is under investigation.
