A hard-working father and his teenage son were shot and wounded after gunfire erupted in a Brooklyn deli Wednesday night.

Relatives broke down in tears after hearing about the shooting. Police say the gunman was trying to rob them.

The gunman entered Arlene Deli Grocery on Arlington Avenue and Linwood Street at about 10 p.m. last night and demanded money.

The 18-year-old son was shot in the hand. His father, 43-year-old Miguel Cruz, was shot in the chest. Cruz is undergoing surgery at Brookdale Hospital.

Police are working on putting together a description of the suspect, who fled after the shooting. It wasn't immediately clear if he made off with any cash.

There are several security cameras inside and outside the store that may have captured video of the gunman.

The investigation is ongoing.
