Brooklyn Janitor Convicted of Raping 8th Grader

A former Brooklyn school janitor has been convicted of raping an eighth-grade girl.

The Brooklyn District Attorney's Office says 34-year-old Ambiorix Rodriguez was also convicted Tuesday of sex assault and sexual abuse. He faces up to life in prison when he is sentenced Feb. 20.

Authorities say Rodriguez worked as a custodian at the Middle School for Marketing and Legal Studies from September 2010 to January 2011. During that time, they say he repeatedly touched and had sex with the girl when she was 12 and 13-years-old in the school's basement and stairwell.

Rodriguez was arrested in April, 2011after the victim disclosed the abuse to school officials, who notified police.

Information on Rodriguez's lawyer was not immediately available.
