Police say they've made an arrest in the shooting death of a gas station clerk on Long Island.
Joshua Golson-Orelus, 23, was charged with murder and robbery in the Jan. 28 death of 56-year-old Hany Awad of Levittown, police said.
Awad was found shot dead behind the counter of the BP gas station where he worked, according to the Nassau County Police Department. A customer discovered the attendant on the ground and unresponsive at the BP gas station on Jericho Turnpike at about 9 p.m. the night he was killed, according to the Nassau County Police Department.
The attendant had apparently been shot in the torso, police say.
Golson-Orelus was charged with first-degree murder, robbery, attempted robbery and two counts of criminal possession of a weapon. He was held without bail after his arraignment Thursday; he was represented by Legal Aid, which has a policy of not commenting on pending cases.
Will Alaimo, who runs a motel across the street, knew Awad.
"He was always such a nice gentleman," he said. "He always had a smile on his face. Now he's gone for no reason."

Business owners in the area said they thought easy access to highways and parkways make it alluring for criminals.
"They can get right on the L.I.E. over there, and they're gone," said Alaimo.
