97-Year-Old Driver Rescued After Car Plunges into Bay

Police officers rescued a 97-year-old Long Island woman from her sinking car Saturday after she drove it off a dock and into the water at the Bay Shore Marina, authorities said.

The woman, a Bohemia resident whom police did not identify, was found inside the car with water up to her neck when Suffolk County Officer Nicholas Aspromgos arrived at the marina. The car's windows were closed and the doors locked. Aspromgos broke the driver's side window and pulled the woman out of the car.

The woman was taken to Southside Hospital in Bay Shore, where she was treated for injuries that were not life-threatening, police said.
