Man Found Dead in Queens Motel Room

A 54-year-old man was found dead inside a Queens motel room late Saturday night, police said. According to a published report, the man had been strangled to death.

Police have identified the man as Joseph Benzinger, of Middle Village.

The Daily News reports that Benzinger was unconscious when he was discovered by the cleaning staff of the Crown Motor Inn in Elmhurst just before midnight.

Police sources told the News that Benzinger was found in a third floor room of the $45 per-hour motel with a shirt wrapped around his neck. There were no signs of forced entry into the room.

Authorities are investigating Benzinger's death as a homicide. No arrests have been made.
