Driver Charged in Hit-Run Death of 21-Year-Old Woman

A 53-year-old driver who surrendered to police after fleeing the scene of an accident in which he allegedly struck and killed a 21-year-old woman in Harlem has been charged with driving without a license and leaving the scene of a fatal accident, among other offenses.

Police had been looking for the driver of a car that was traveling south on Eighth Avenue near 133rd Street shortly after 4:30 a.m. Saturday when it hit 21-year-old Taja Johnson, of Mount Vernon. Johnson was taken to a hospital after the crash, where she was pronounced dead.

Police say Boubacar Bathily turned himself in Saturday evening in connection with the fatal hit-and-run crash.

It wasn't immediately clear if Bathily had an attorney.
