NJ's Corzine Hits Beverly Hills for Campaign Cash

Danny DeVito and Rhea Perlman to raise dough for Jersey governor's reelection

New Jersey Governor John Corzine will head west next week for a fancy fundraiser at the Beverly Hills home of Danny DeVito and Rhea Perlman.

Guests at next Tuesday's event  are being asked to pay $1000, $3400 and $10,000 in what's being billed as a "Garden State Party" to help raise cash for the incumbent Democrat who is facing a tough race from Republican challenger Chris Christie.

The "special guest" listed on the invitation is Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa. It's an interesting choice for a highlighted guest.

Mayor Villaraigosa has his own problems- a popularity rating that has slipped to below 55% after his divorce and news of his romance with a second TV journalist. In June, Villaraigosa announced he would not seek the Democratic Party nomination for governor of California.

We'll have to wait and see what kind of draw the mayor will be in helping Corzine sell those $10,000 tickets.

De Vito, on the other hand, is a natural to stump for Corzine. He was born in Neptune and grew up in Asbury Park. De Vito's production company is called Jersey Films, which produced the movie "Garden State."
