Soccer star David Beckham is waging a new battle, but it's outside of the stadium.

Attorneys for the star athlete filed a lawsuit yesterday in Los Angeles Supreme Court that alleged a magazine published false claims that Beckham had sexual relations with prostitutes, The Associated Press reported.

The lawsuit accused Bauer Publishing, based in Delaware, of libel, slander and emotional distress stemming from an article published in the celebrity magazine In Touch.

It also named Irma Nici, 26, who said in the article that she was a prostitute who had slept with the athlete three years ago. Nici alleged that Beckham was also involved with another prostitute.

Other suits are being filed in other administrations, among them Germany, where Bauer’s main company is headquartered, according to Jeff Raymond, Beckham’s publicist.

The Associated Press further reported that an e-mail to the publisher on Friday was not returned.
