Levi's Design Director Reportedly Leaving for San Francisco Denim Outpost

Carl Chiara, who has been at denim superbrand Levi's for more than 16 years and up until recently held the post of Design Director of premium brands, is leaving the company to focus on the wares at a chic San Francisco shop called Unionmade, according to The Feast San Francisco.

Unionmade has a focus on heritage brands like Carhartt, Hamilton Shirts, Moscot, and Pendleton, in addition to Levi's vintage, so the move makes sense. What's more, Unionmade owner Todd Barket is Chiara's longtime partner. In a nice little bit of foreshadowing, Barket apparently told The Feast a while ago that the store would likely create its own label: "I think eventually [we'll have a private label]. It just takes a lot of work on the production side and the design side. We're definitely looking at it." [The Feast San Francisco]
