Having Conquered All Other Genres, Coens Working on Horror Film

We're not huge horror fans, but if that's what the Coen brothers have on offer, we'll take it.

Joel and Ethan Coen have done noir, Western, romcom, satire, gangster... but they haven't yet done horror. They may soon cross that one off their list.

"Funny you should ask, yes, we're working on a couple of scripts now, one of which it would be fair to call a full-on horror movie," Ethan told Empire. "Frances McDormand is the monster."

The bit about McDormand is pretty clearly a joke, of course, as she's Joel's wife, but Empire swears the horror part was sincere.

In the meantime, if you haven't yet seen their "True Grit," it's time. For most filmmakers it would stand as a career achievement, for these guys it was a minor masterpiece. It's a blast, as fun as most any other film of 2010.

And if you're a Coen brothers completist, check out "A Woman, a Gun and a Noodle Shop," Yimou Zhang's remake of "Blood Simple" set in ancient China. It's a bit of a mess, but it's beautifully shot and certainly has its moments.
