Early Reports on Monkey Bar

Opening a week from Monday

The debut of the hotly anticipated re-do of famed Midtown eatery Monkey Bar by Vanity Fair's Graydon Carter grows ever closer. Last Friday The Feed snagged a spot at one the the restaurant's many exclusive friends and family dinners and pulls through with a reveal on the vibe, the menu, and of utmost importance, the scheduled public opening:

"Assisted by the warm lighting, red banquettes and palpable feeling of 'It' status, the place did exude glamor...As for the menu...it’s all about the classics (lobster Newburg, iceberg wedge salad, meatloaf), with some power-lunching favorites...thrown in for good measure...The most intriguing dish of the evening: Black Muscat Jell-O served with a pitcher of thick cream poured over it table-side."

Meanwhile, a Grub Street tipster checks in and is not so impressed. On the burger, "...it tastes like grocery-store chuck, ground too fine, recently defrosted..." Carter tells The Feed they should be good to go a week from today.
