Smoky-voiced singer-songwriter-fiddler Jolie Holland has a way of teasing emotion and meaning out of the most lo-fi, hushed melodies, most of which sound like they could have been sung around a Carolina campfire circa 1930.
So it makes sense that she’s returning to (Le) Poisson Rouge on Saturday to headline Radio Happy Hour, the venue’s live take on old-timey variety radio shows – it’s a bit like "A Prairie Home Companion," minus Garrison Keillor and the wink-wink small-towniness, and plus all the tropes of Depression-era radio shows.
