Original Coney Island Pier For Sale

Salvage company rescued endangered Brazilian hardwood

Pssst, buddy, wanna buy a pier?

It's not exactly the Brooklyn Bridge, but the Coney Island Pier is for sale.

And unlike Thor Equities' decision to boot Nathan's Famous and Astroland from the boardwalk, this time it's for a reason that won't break your heart.

The original planks -- made of an endangered Brazilian hardwood called Ipe -- are past their prime. In June, coinciding with the boardwalk's 85th birthday, the state legislature awarded $10 million boardwalk reconstruction projects, which came in addition to $5 million allocated by the city.

Olde Good Things in Chelsea was hired by the city to salvage the original wood. "It is now available for sale reworked or in its original condition with its natural ocean-weathered grey patina," according to the shop's blog. " It is available as decking, in an outdoor furniture line or as unusual table tops. You can have a piece of New York City history right in your home with the purchase of one of our unique altered antiques… straight from the Coney Island Boardwalk."
