Tennis, anyone? If you can't afford to fly to London this week, don't worry; just head over to 30 Rock to get a little taste of the sport's most famous event.
Wimbledon got under way today at the All England Lawn Tennis Club, which means you can hear Dick Enberg say "fortnight" on television at least a few times from now until the men's final on July 5.
But today, former No. 1 players Jim Courier and Jennifer Capriati will play for some lucky fans at a specially installed grass court at Rockefeller Plaza, between 50th and 51st streets. The action begins at noon.
And throughout the week, there are plenty of other ways to get you in the spirit of grasscourt tennis, such as clinics, big-screen match coverage and a famous English treat. Just remember to wear tennis shoes for your free session with a friend, and if you don't have a racquet, Prince will provide one for you. And no swearing at the line judge. The events are first come, first served.
If you're not in the mood to play, you can still have some lunch-hour fun around the plaza. Large screens will show live match coverage from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day this week. And then until 7 p.m. each night, stick around for replays of classic matches from the tournament's rich history.
Free tennis clinics are available on Tuesday and Wednesday from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m., and again on Thursday and Friday from 1 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. and 4 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.
Other highlights this week include: photo ops with the Wimbledon trophy, EA Sports Grand Slam tennis and a strawberries and cream cart at which complimentary samples will be served between noon and 6 p.m. daily.
