NHL Game Summary – NY Rangers at Florida

Sunrise, FL (Sports Network) - Richard Zednik scored the lone shootout goal, providing the Florida Panthers with a thrilling 2-1 win over the New York Rangers, in a game that featured a pair of sharp goaltenders.

Michael Frolik scored early in the second period and Tomas Vokoun made 34 saves for the Panthers, who have won three straight games and seven of their last nine. They've posted a 12-3-3 mark since January 1.

Henrik Lundqvist had a spectacular performance for the Rangers with 42 saves, including 13 during a highlight third period, but New York lost for the sixth time in seven games. Fredrik Sjostrom scored in the first period for the Rangers, who have lost six in a row on the road.

Ryan Callahan had a chance to give the Rangers the win at the conclusion of the third round of the shootout, but Vokoun made a sprawling save.

Zednik then scored on a wrist shot between the pads, and the Panthers secured the win when Vokoun turned aside Nikolai Zherdev's backhand attempt at the left side of the net.

Sjostrom netted his fourth goal of the season with 2:46 remaining in the opening period off a scramble in front. The puck trickled between the legs of Vokoun and barely went over the goal line.

Frolik evened the contest 2:37 into the second with his 13th goal of the season. Cory Stillman sent a centering pass from behind the net. Frolik received the puck on his tape, whirled and then whizzed the puck by Lundqvist.

Each team had 11 shots in the middle period, but the Rangers were the more fortunate team. Frolik missed the net on an open backhand attempt with just over two minutes left in the second, and Lundqvist made a couple of highlight stops with nearly 11 1/2 minutes remaining in the third.

New York's Erik Reitz was in the penalty box for hooking when Jay Bouwmeester's shot from the slot was turned away by Lundqvist's left pad. Nathan Horton's rebound attempt from the low slot couldn't find the open top portion of the net as Lundqvist sprawled on the ice and amazingly stopped the puck with his glove to keep the game tied.

Vokoun made a glove save on a shot from Nigel Dawes with 49 seconds remaining in regulation, but Lundqvist was equal to the task on a close-in attempt from David Booth with 12 seconds to go.

The Rangers had four shots in overtime to three for Florida.
