NHL Game Summary – Vancouver at NY Islanders

Uniondale, NY (Sports Network) - Frans Nielsen scored the lone goal in the shootout, and the New York Islanders edged the Vancouver Canucks, 2-1.

Joey MacDonald stopped 31-of-32 shots for the Isles, who won their third straight after a three-game losing streak. Doug Weight tallied the lone regulation score for New York.

Roberto Luongo, just recently removed from his amazing team-record shutout streak that topped 240 minutes, had 34 saves for the Canucks but let in Nielsen's score in the shootout. Pavol Demitra scored the only goal for Vancouver, which had won four of five entering play.

Demitra gave the Canucks the lead just 49 seconds into regulation. Daniel Sedin fed Demitra, who ripped the puck past MacDonald for his third goal of the season.

The lead would not stand up, though, as Weight scored on the power play in the second period to tie the game. Bill Guerin took the feed from Weight and sent it back to the Isles center, who unloaded a slapshot that deflected off the stick of a Canucks defenseman and past Luongo at 14:35.

Neither team broke through in the third period or the overtime, and Nielsen's goal on the first shot of the shootout gave New York the edge. MacDonald kept Vancouver from scoring, as his poke-check of Alex Burrows sealed the win.
