Unstable Building Prompts Evacuations; Train Suspension

An unstable building that's under construction in the Bronx prompted 9 building evacuations and train suspensions in its immediate vicinity, fire officials said.

The unstable structure is on Southern Boulevard near Freeman Street in the Foxhurst section of the borough, authorities said.

The unstable building caused officials to evacuate 9 buildings in the area at about 6:30 a.m. Dozens of residents who were evacuated were allowed back in their buildings at about 9 a.m., authorities said.

After suspensions on the 2 and 5 train lines in the area, the MTA re-opened the lines, but riders can expect residual delays.

Workers are still working to secure the unstable structure.
