FDNY Responds to Times Square Restaurant Fire

A fire inside a hotel kitchen in Times Square brought heavy firefighter response and shut down a street in the bustling area Wednesday night.

The fire broke out inside the kitchen of a restaurant on the ground floor of the Tryp Hotel on West 48th Street between Seventh and Eighth avenues.

The Japanese restaurant had just opened a month ago, according to workers there. It's not clear what started the fire, and no flames or smoke were visible from the street.

The street in front of the hotel was closed as FDNY responded but was expected to reopen by late Wednesday night.

No injuries were reported.
