Part of Seventh Avenue remains shut down Wednesday morning following a water main break that left more than 400 households without water on Tuesday. 

Seventh Avenue is closed between 26th and 24th streets and two southbound lanes on Seventh Avenue from 34th Street to 26th Street are also closed, officials said. 

Approximately 420 households and 12 businesses were without water shortly before 10 p.m., the city's Department of Environmental Protection said. 

Commuters were being asked to avoid the area and use alternate routes.

1 trains were temporarily skipping local stops between Chambers Street and Penn Station as crews drained water from the tracks, but have since resumed normal service.

It wasn't immediately clear when the roads would fully reopen or when water would be restored.
