The LIRR resumed service through Sayville on Friday evening after a person was struck by a train, but riders heading out of the city should expect significant delays.
Service was suspended between the Babylon and Patchogue stations on the Babylon branch after a person was struck sometime before 3 p.m.
Service resumed on one of two tracks shortly after 4 p.m.
Extensive delays were reported on the branch, with a 2:29 p.m. eastbound train from Babylon running 80 minutes behind schedule.
LIRR said residual delays were averaging around 45 minutes.
