A 52-year-old woman was found unconscious, with trauma to her face and body, at the bottom of an outdoor stairwell in Queens Monday, and authorities say they are investigating the case as a possible sexual assault.
Cops responding to a 911 call about a possible sex attack near 72nd Road and Kissena Boulevard found the badly hurt woman on the staircase around 8:30 a.m., possibly just after she dropped off a child to day care or school, according to sources.
The woman's pants were removed, and there were indications of sexual contact and possible rape, law enforcement sources said. Detectives were also seen removing a condom wrapper from the scene.
A rape kit will be performed to confirm the sexual assault, and police will be looking for a DNA match, the sources said.
She was taken to a hospital in serious condition, with injuries to the neck and bruises to the head, according to law enforcement sources. The woman remains unconscious and has been intubated to help with her breathing.
No arrests have been made; the investigation is ongoing.
